I’m the absolute worst at being sick. I used to get sinus infections 3 or 4 times a year, like clockwork. Over the years, I’ve gotten better at heading off the worst things before they get really nasty, but sometimes that shit still creeps up on you.
I haven’t left the apartment in two days. The routine involves decongestant in the morning, cough syrup as needed, and then games or internet until I get sleepy. Quick nap, rinse (often literally) and repeat. Today I woke up with clearly something stuck in my sinuses that needed out. Some vigorous blowing and this stomach-turning, gluey ochre chunk came out and I felt an immense relief. I figured the worst was over, and I’d take it easy today and be fine tomorrow.
But I ran out of nyquil, and somehow decided that the pharmacy down the street also had red pepper (which is absolutely perfect for macaroni and cheese and also clearing sinuses), so out I went. In the span of two blocks, the world was tilting at a weird angle and at least a dozen people were looking at me with that odd mixture of horror and sympathy. So while my thought processes have climbed back at the moment, the rest of me apparently still needs to catch up.
Fortunately I bought half a box of frozen chimichangas and some chocolate toffee nuggets, so I should be good for another couple days.
