Rather than do the jobs they’re paid ungodly amounts of money to do, such as pass new laws and policy to ensure things like roads continue to exist, a number of red states and the House Republicans have decided to do little in the last three years but constantly attempt to protest a law that they didn’t like.
I’m not saying Obamacare is a winner. So far, it looks like a terrible compromise that will end up having consequences that weren’t exactly thought through. But rather than, say, attempt to tweak it, improve it, or corral insurance companies and the medical industry so that things work to the peoples’ benefit, they’ve decided to stomp their feet and try their damndest to shut down anything else out of spite.
What’s neat is that a couple of years ago when regular, non-elected folks stopped working in protest of things they didn’t like, the government decided to stop that shit with police aggression and the systematic shuttering of Constitutional rights. But it’s cool if half of the bigger, dumber Congressional club wants to up and stop the government from functioning rather than put in a day’s work. I can also promise you those same congressmen wouldn’t be caught dead under an “Occupy” label, nor would any armed force insist they do their fucking jobs or go home and stay off the greenspace.
On the plus side, toddlers everywhere can be assured of good company when they throw themselves on the floor and refuse to move/eat/breathe/etc.
