Captain Fucking Obvious

Since I live in the great backwards state of KY, I occasionally feel the need to explain why we’ve elected Mitch McConnell to the U.S. senate every term since 1984.  And my explaination is usually along the lines of “most of us can read and wear shoes, we just choose to do otherwise”.

I don’t think even that’s gonna cut it anymore, because as most of us knew (even if we refused to believe. hey, creation museum!) that the Republican trickle down fairy tale has always been a bullshit story.  Look at the goddamn evidence: we are a fucking poor state as far as the population income goes.  Not the poorest, but way down there.  And just like the other bottom states, we refuse to admit what’s patently obvious, cause we have wal-marts and applebees all over the fucking place.  Yes, some people believe that’s high class.

So how do you measure the quantity of delusional thought in a state?  You start with a baseline.  We’ll just ballpark here, and go with the 2008 Senate result: 52.97, almost 53% of Kentucky voted for McConnell.  So we can say about half the state bought Mitch’s particular brand of bullshit.

Next, we take this article from Forbes magazine (fucking Forbes for fuck’s sake!) explaining how a non-partisan government committee found, well, here:

The reduction in top tax rates appears to be uncorrelated with saving, investment, and productivity growth.  The top tax rates appear to have little or no relation to the size of the economic pie.  However, the top tax rate reductions appear to be associated with the increasing concentration of income at the top of the income distribution.

And now we wait, with an election in two days, to see what the percentage of Romney voters in this state will be, because he’s running his campaign on that same trickle-down policy.  Granted, the report has only been around since mid-September, and it’s been more or less smothered by a conservatives with access to those things.  So maybe a better measure would be to watch McConnell in 2014.  Either way, the report- and moreso the attempt to hide it- will pick up steam sometime, and we’ll see a shift in realization.

Or more likely, half of us will just bury our heads deeper in the sand.
