[From a week ago, which I thought posted, but apparently did not.]
As much as I dislike politicians in general, the Republicans- particularly in the last decade- have proven themselves to be obstinate to the point of ruin. Partly because they’ve thrived on stirring up loathing for any particular group or cause that their constituents fear, and partly because they’ve succeeded in proving that truth and reality are irrelevant when you can just yell over top of everyone who bothers with reason and logic.
The current rhetoric of choice is “class warfare”, in response to any mention of poverty, lack of jobs with benefits and decent pay, lack of jobs period, or taxing the rich. And honestly, they’re right. It is class warfare, and it should be a little bloodier and painful I think. If I recall correctly, the last time the French did anything particularly awesome, it was this:
They heard the aristocracy declare them beneath notice, and they objected. Violently. Perhaps the GOP might take note of their own words for once.
