Two things I don’t understand.

Why did the Strokes’ second and third albums get panned when they sounded exactly the same as their first one?  I’m serious, google them.  I’ll wait.

No shit, right?  I like how iTunes’ review of First Impressions of Earth claims that in contrast, their first album contained “hints of reggae, soul, and ’80s pop”.   Really.

I like the Strokes, I do.  But goddammit, they could be accused of writing one song over and over!  My best guess is when they debuted, the music world was struck by fond memories of some guitar-driven genre that existed a long time ago but had since been forgotten.  And then Room On Fire came out and everyone suddenly remembered everything they hated about the same genre.

Either that or there was some sort of Payola/music critic bribe shit going on, and then Julian Casablancas pissed somebody off.

Monroe piercings.  There are a select few people who can get away with them.  The rest of you look like you need to pop a zit.

About ducksarebitches

I'm a painter, a drummer, a student, and currently unemployed. I also appreciate cats and a bit of light debauchery, but not at the same time or for the same reasons.
